From The Lankmark, August 17, 1894
"The revival meeting at the Baptist Church, commenced nearly four weeks ago, is resulting in a great good, conducted by Rev. Lee Harrel and W.W. Searcy of Plattsburg, continues with 51 converts, to Tuesday evening. A very large crowd of persons attending the baptizing at the river at 6 o'clock p.m., Sunday last, variously estimated from 1,000 to 1,200 persons, the Rev. Harrel being the administrator, baptizing 36 persons- viz. 19 males and 17 females in 27 minutes. Perfect order and decorum being had, the reading of the scripture, and prayer and song service, being distinctly heard by the throng of people occupying the opposite bank of the river, as well also by the mass of humanity standing on the bridge. A most solemn and impressive scene, to witness such a large number of young men and young women, thus early in life, giving their lives to the Savior who died that we might live. Thus bearing witness to the world of a new birth and a new life. The meeting will probably continue during this week."
