Collectively, we are people who are following Jesus together. That means we encourage, care for, grieve with, celebrate, love, and honor one another. We understand that by gathering together, we represent a fuller expression of God’s character, which is why sharing our lives and stories with one another is crucial. He intended us to live out our faith in the context of community.
In the Bible, the church is often referred to as a body or a family, many members making up one whole. Perhaps like your family of origin, life can get messy in a family. None of this surprises God.
In Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus he writes, “I… beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.”
While the church can certainly have its flaws, God values our commitment to one another.
